5/24/2023 12:00:00 AM

Once again proving success is not limited to the field, Goldey-Beacom's baseball and softball teams combined to get 12 of their student-athletes on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Academic Honor Roll.

The list for baseball includes Justin Jump (Wilmington, DE) getting his third honor, fellow junior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) making his second appearance, with senior Anthony DiMartino (Sicklerville, NJ) and sophomores Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA), Matt Benner (Souderton, PA) and Wyatt Atkinson (Moorestown, NJ) getting their first nod.

Softball's list sees junior Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, NJ) earning her third award, Gwen Safin (Stroudsburg, PA) and Chrissy Jordan (Pasadena, MD) getting their second appearance with sophomores Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE), Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) and Devon Ellixson (Mullica Hill, NJ) notching their first honor.

Walker has been one of the program's most vital players at third base with exceptional hitting on a consistent basis.  This was witnessed earlier this season when the 2023 first team All-CACC and 2021 second team All-CACC pick went on a school-record 26-game hitting streak, during which he batted .362 (34-of-94) with nine extra-base hits and 22 RBI.

An incredibly exciting athlete to see play, Walker is second in league with 76 hits, fifth with 50 RBI and 16th with a .345 batting average.  He is first in school history with 168 hits, first with 99 RBI, second with a .334 career batting average, fourth with 28 stolen bases and fifth with 29 doubles.

DiMartino again was a major player on the mound, providing many strong outings in crucial games and graduates as one of the program's elite pitchers.  He leaves first in team history with 169 strikeouts, tied for first with 14 victories, tied for second with five complete games and second with 201 1/3 innings.  DiMartino closed this season with five wins and 41 strikeouts.

Jump was another key member of the starting rotation and played a significant role in the team's success, ending sixth in the league with a school-record 76 strikeouts and second with a team-record 81 2/3 innings pitched.  He is fifth in school history with 132 strikeouts, fifth with 131 innings pitched and tied for fifth with seven wins.

Kolmansberger this season moved to shortstop and continued to make himself a consistent part of the lineup, ending second in the CACC with 19 doubles, third with five triples, 15th with 55 hits and 15th with 38 RBI.  He is tied for first in team history with seven triples, sixth outright with 26 doubles, eighth with 93 hits, tied for eighth with 23 stolen bases and ninth with 61 RBI.

Benner made 25 starts and played solidly in right field, closing with 17 hits and 15 RBI.  Atkinson notched two victories and 32 strikeouts over 29 2/3 innings.

Makin graduates as one of the program's consistently reliable players whether in the outfield or at first base.  A great teammate and one who will be missed, she finished this season 35th in the league with eight doubles, 36th with 45 hits and 41st with a .317 batting average.

Safin in the circle recorded 14 strikeouts over 33 1/3 innings and at the plate notched the winning sacrifice bunt March 23 against Queens (NY).  Jordan again was a dual threat, ending 32nd in the league with 22 strikeouts in the circle and 46th with a .312 batting average at the plate.

McLane built off her outstanding freshman season with another strong campaign, maintaining her spot as one of the league's top pitchers by ending first in the league with five saves, seventh with 94 strikeouts and 14th with eight wins.  She is fourth in team history with 168 strikeouts, seventh with 18 victories and tied for first with five saves.

Lowry, also on the women's soccer team, is a versatile athlete who is one of the program's best everyday players.  A gifted athlete with two promising years ahead, she finished this year 22nd in the CACC with 29 RBI, 25th with 51 hits and 28th with a .347 average.

Ellixson this year pitched in five games, ending with six strikeouts over 8 2/3 innings.

The baseball squad (37-20) this season had another sensational campaign in which it played in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons, hosted a regional for the first time and broke the school record for most wins.  The team also received votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association national poll prior to the NCAA Tournament, was second in the NCAA East Regional rankings and won four times against nationally ranked schools.

The softball unit (32-23) this year put forth a campaign in which it recorded the most victories since getting a school-record 37 during the 1998 season, notched the fourth 30-win season in program annals, played tough in all three games against perennial stalwart Wilmington (DE) and got a huge win March 31 against a strong Caldwell squad.
