Softball Drops Two at Bridgeport

In a matchup of teams who last season played in the same NCAA Tournament regional, Goldey-Beacom opened its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Bridgeport with a 6-5 loss before it was handed a 7-4 setback in Bridgeport, CT.

Goldey-Beacom in game one plated three runs in the top of the fourth inning for a 4-2 lead.  Two runs scored on an error and junior McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) made it a two-run game with an RBI double.

The Purple Knights owned a 5-4 lead before the Lightning tied things in the sixth.  Senior Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ) got a leadoff single, reached third on separate wild pitches and scored on Frank's sacrifice fly.

However, Bridgeport took a 6-5 lead in the last of the frame on Genna D'Amato's RBI single.

Frank closed with two hits and Blackwood, NJ junior Molly Skelly (4-2) struck out three over six innings for the Lightning (10-10, 2-2 CACC).

Bridgeport (17-11, 3-1) in game two plated four runs in the last of the second for a 4-0 lead, keyed by D'Amato's two-run single.

Senior Emma Friel (Coatesville, PA) closed with two RBI for the Lightning, driving one in on a groundout in the sixth and recording an RBI double in the seventh.

Samantha Ledger allowed just two earned runs over seven innings and Sydnee Perreault had three hits for Bridgeport.
