Goldey-Beacom softball faced Bowie State at the Jackson Athletic Complex and came away with an 8-4 victory in game one before a 9-8 walkoff win in the second game of the doubleheader.
Game one saw Bowie State score first on a steal home by Coreena Dunham in the first inning and an RBI single from Mikayla Amos in the third inning. The Lightning gained the advantage in the bottom of the third inning when junior McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) singled to score senior Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ). Senior Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Springs, NJ) then doubled to left center field to plate Frank and fellow senior Chasedy Johnson (Egg Harbor City, NJ).Â
The Lightning stayed hot in the fifth inning, starting with a solo home run from sophomore Bri Cole (Rising Sun, MD), a sacrifice fly from senior Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) and a two-RBI triple from freshman Ayri Hansen (Lakewood, CA) that also plated herself on a throwing error. The seventh inning saw Bowie State score two runs on an RBI from Presleigh Braxton and an RBI single by Mikayla Amos before the 8-4 Lightning win.
Game two saw the Lightning score first in the third inning on a single from Frank that plated Hansen and again in the fourth with freshman Kelci Gingras (Orem, UT) scoring on an error. Bowie State evened the score at two in the fifth inning on a two-run double from Coreena Dunham before GBC scored two on a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning. In the sixth inning, Bowie State took a two-run lead on a two-RBI double from Angelina Nguyen-Nhu and a two-run homer from Aaliyah Amos. In the bottom of the inning, GBC took advantage of a single from Frank that led to multiple errors to earn three runs and make the score 7-6. Cole gave the Lightning a two run advantage with an RBI to wrap up the inning.
In the seventh, Bowie State once again regained the lead with two RBI singles from Santanna Puller and Aaliyah Amos. The Lightning were able to capitalize on a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning for the 9-8 walk off victory.
Goldey-Beacom plays next on Tuesday, when it hosts Holy Family at the Jackson Athletic Complex in Wilmington, DE for a 2:00pm doubleheader.
