Softball Splits With Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom softball gained a split with CACC opponent Holy Family after rallying for a 2-0 win in the second game of the doubleheader after falling 7-4 in game one.

Game one saw Holy Family start with a 4-0 lead after the first inning on a three-run triple from Kylee Jones and an RBI single from Olivia Croge. The bottom of the third inning saw GBC get on the board with a two-run single from sophomore Bri Cole (Rising Sun, MD) to cut the lead to two heading into the fourth inning. Holy Family scored its next three runs on RBI singles from Liily Hoban in the fourth inning, Rachel Allen in the fifth and Madison Grubb in the sixth. The Lightning added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-run single by Chaneyl Johnson (Egg Harbor City, NJ), but Holy Family took the 7-4 victory.

Game two saw only one scoring play, coming from the Lightning in the third inning when freshman Kelci Gingras (Orem, UT) reached first on an error that allowed for Johnson and senior Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ) to score. Johnson, junior McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA), senior Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Springs, NJ) and freshman Ayri Hansen (Lakewood, CA) all recorded one hit each for the Lightning. Sophomore Lauren Carbonara (Newark, DE) struck out five from the mound.

Goldey-Beacom plays next on Saturday, when it travels to Caldwell, NJ to face Caldwell in a noon doubleheader.
