Goldey-Beacom continued its torrid fall with a pair of outstanding rounds and two individual school records from junior Pablo Saenz Avila (Bogota, Colombia) to open the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Golf Championship in Watertown, CT.

Saenz Avila, a four-time All-CACC member, grabbed the spotlight in the second round with a six-under-par 65 that each are school records for score to par and overall score.  The previous marks of five-under-par and 66 were set in 2012-13 by current assistant coach Pat McRae at the GBC Fall Invitational.  His round was highlight with seven birdies, including one on each of his last four holes.

Saenz Avila, who on the back nine of round one carded 34, totaled 142 on the day and is in fifth place just three off the lead.

That pole position is held by junior Hunter McGee (Almonte, ON), who showed the same form that allowed him to be the 2020-21 CACC Player of the Year, the 2021-22 CACC individual champion and a four-time member of the All-CACC Team.  He made an opening-round eagle on the seventh hole to go with four birdies en route to shooting 68, one off his career best.

Round two saw McGee produce an eagle and two birdies as part of his 71.  His 36-hole total of 139 puts him one shot ahead of Bill Koch and Ethan Phillips, both from Post.

Junior Camilo Samur (Bucaramanga, Colombia), an All-CACC selection last season, rolled home five birdies in the opening round to shoot 68 and also fall one short of his personal best.   He came back in the afternoon to shoot 35 on the back nine as part of his 75, putting him tied for sixth at 143.

Junior Adrian Bonilla (Almeria, Spain) continues to be a massive presence for the Lightning, firing an opening-round 73 that included three birdies. That was followed with two birdies in round two, putting his score at 148 and in sole possesion of 14th place.

Sophomore William Kelly (Auckland, New Zealand) notched two birdies in his opening round, came home in 38 and closed his first 18 holes with 78.  The second round produced two birdies and a score of 73, putting him at 151 and in 17th place.

GBC in the second round carded 284 to match the second-lowest total in program history, equaling that mark set at last season's Vulcan Invitational.  That, coupled with its 286 from the opening round, has it at 570 and just one shot behind Post for first place.

Goldey-Beacom, coming off last week's victory at the West Liberty Invitational, on Tuesday returns to Watertown Country Club for the final round.  It will be on the course with Post and third-place Dominican (NY), beginning at 10:00 am.  The round itself starts at 8:30 am.
