Goldey-Beacom Gets the Fantastic Four Picked for CACC Weekly Honors

10/16/2023 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom picked up four more weekly honors from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with junior Chris Jones (Denton, MD) tabbed Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, senior Eduardo Coimbra (Curitiba, Brazil) named to the sport's Weekly Honor Roll and both juniors Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) and Jennifer Mejia (State College, PA) selected to the Women's Soccer Weekly Honor Roll.

Jones made eight saves over two games, both Goldey-Beacom triumphs.  He had six saves Tuesday in the squad's 1-0 triumph at Holy Family and needed just two in the team's 3-0 win Saturday at Bloomfield.

Jones has been a tremendous addition to the squad, making at least six saves four times that included a season-best 11 on October 4 at Chestnut Hill.  He is fifth in the CACC with 46 saves.

Coimbra scored twice Saturday, helping Goldey-Beacom make it three victories in its last four outings with Saturday's triumph at Bloomfield.

A two-time second team all-conference pick, Coimbra continues to be a major bright spot for the squad and he has it on the verge of going back to the CACC Tournament.  Now a four-time pick this season to the Weekly Honor Roll, Coimbra is fifth in team history with 22 assists, tied for fifth with 20 goals and sixth with 62 points.

Lowry closed with a goal and an assist in helping Goldey-Beacom go 1-0-1 last week.  Her goal was a massive one, intercepting a clear and finding the back of the next from 30 yards away in Tuesday's 1-1 tie at Holy Family.  Lowry also had an assist Saturday in Goldey-Beacom's 6-0 rout at Bloomfield.

It has been a multi-faceted year for Lowry, who last week was picked the league's Goalkeeper of the Week after being called upon for emergency duty October 3 at Chestnut Hill.  The owner of a 1.000 fielding percentage from last year with the softball team, Lowry in the Chestnut Hill game made eight saves in getting the shutout win.

Lowry a season ago also was named to the CACC Academic Honor Roll and the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District teams both for soccer and softball.

Mejia closed with nine saves over both of the Lightning's games.  She made a season-high six saves Tuesday at Holy Family and added three Saturday at Bloomfield.

Mejia this season has played in three games and has made 12 saves to go with an .857 save percentage.
