Another standout season deserves another standout award and that is what was in store for Goldey-Beacom sophomore Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, DE), who repeated as a member of the first team All-East Region women's soccer squad as picked by the Conference Commissioners Association.
Ruggeri's new award will sit well next to her plaque as this season's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year. That also marked the second straight year she was tabbed first team All-CACC after she got the nod as 2021 conference Rookie of the Year.
Even with the extra attention around her and her anonymity a thing of the past, Ruggeri continued to make herself and everyone around her better. With many other players also succeeding with their own scoring and passing abilities, much of the pressure was taken off her and that led to yet another strong campaign both for her and the Lightning.
Ruggeri this season continues to light up the scoreboard and remain among the nation's elite. She is third in the country with 13 assists, third with 0.76 assists per game, 16th with 37 points, sixth with 2.18 points per contest, 34th with 12 goals and 23rd with 0.71 goals per game.
Ruggeri leads the league in assists and points in addition to being fifth in goals.
The Goldey-Beacom record book also is showered with her name. She owns the school's single-season school record with 13 assists, her 37 points are fourth and her 12 goals are tied for ninth. Career wise, her 22 assists are third in team annals, her 70 points are seventh and her 24 goals are eighth.
All of this helped Goldey-Beacom (9-8-1, 7-4-1 CACC) get back in the CACC Tournament for a school-record eighth straight competitive year. The Lightning also ended the regular season 10th in the NCAA East Regional Rankings, a major criteria for selecting at-large teams into the NCAA Tournament.
