Hunter McGee Named CACC Men’s Golf Player of Year; Pablo Saenz Avila Tabbed All-CACC

4/29/2021 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's Hunter McGee (Carp, ON), in what has been a truly standout campaign, was tabbed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year with fellow freshman Pablo Saenz Avila (Bogota, Colombia) named to the all-conference squad.

This marks the second straight year both players were tabbed All-CACC.  It also marks the second consecutive season Goldey-Beacom had the CACC Player of the Year with Gonzalo Moreno winning in 2020.

McGee has been one of the area's most dominant players, recording victories March 30 at the Griffin Invitational with 148 and April 12 at the Mike Bello Invitational with 139.  He followed that by ending third at the CACC Championship with 73.

He carded a final-round 67 at the Bello Invitational for a personal-best round and one short of the school record set by former CoSIDA Academic All-America Pat McRae in 2012.  His five-under-par round ties him for the best round to par in school history, accomplished by McRae and Goldey-Beacom Athletics Hall-of-Famer Mike Tobiason in 2002-03.

McGee's 139 equals McRae's record from 2012 at the GBC Spring Invitational and his five-under-par for 36 holes matches Tobiason's mark from the 2005 Dowling Fall Shootout.

McGee is ranked first in the East Region, according to GolfStat, with a 73.86 average.

Saenz Avila also had another strong year with a pair of top-20 finishes.  He closed tied for fifth at the Griffin Invitational 159 that included a final-round 77 and was 11th at the CACC Championship with 80.

Saenz Avila also shot 77 in the final round of the Mike Bello Invitational.

Goldey-Beacom, ranked ninth in the East Region, as a unit had an incredible campaign with just four competing players.  The Lightning won the Griffin Invitational with 641, ended third at the CACC Championship with 311 and was tied for sixth at the Mike Bello Invitational with 616.  The final round at the Bello Invitational saw the team card a season-best 305.
