11/23/2021 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom freshman forward Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, DE) received another accolade in what already was an outstanding campaign as she was picked Conference Commissioners Association Women's Soccer first team All-East Region.

This comes after she was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Year and first team all-league.  As a first team all-region pick, Ruggeri goes into the pool of nominees for All-American.

Ruggeri immediately cracked the starting lineup and was a dominant force with her exceptional scoring ability, tremendous passing skills and overall knowledge of the collegiate game.  Even with the extra attention she received as the year progressed, she still is seventh in the country with 2.06 points per game, 10th with 0.56 assists per contest, 18th with nine assists, 20th with 33 points, 22nd with 0.75 goals per game and 34th with 12 goals.

Among those figures, Ruggeri is top in the league both in assists and points with her goals putting her second.  Her 33 points are tied for fifth on the school's single-season list, her nine assists are tied for sixth and her 12 goals are tied for ninth.

A sampling of Ruggeri's standout performances include her getting two goals and two assists October 12 vs. Georgian Court, in addition to scoring twice October 6 at Staten Island and October 30 at Bloomfield.

This is the 11th all-region honor bestowed on the women's soccer program and the fourth straight season the team has had an all-region nod.  There was no campaign for Goldey-Beacom during the 2020-21 academic year.

Ruggeri was not the only one for the Lightning to excel in 2021.  Junior forward Melayna Immediato (Hockessin, DE) was named first team all-conference with sophomore goalkeeper Noel Talbot (Westminster, MD) and senior defender Kelly Mejia (State College, PA) picked second team all-league.

Goldey-Beacom (10-7, 7-4 CACC) advanced to the CACC Tournament a school-record seventh straight year, notched a school-record five straight seasons with double-digit victories and went into the conference tournament with a six-game winning streak that tied the school record.
