Alyssa Ruggeri Tabbed CACC Women’s Soccer Player and Rookie of the Week

11/1/2021 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom freshman forward Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, DE) has been a dynamic player this entire season and her latest awards were the honors of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer Player and Rookie of the Week.

It is her second honor as the league's Rookie of the Week, having been tabbed September 7, and first as Player of the Week.

Ruggeri continued her more than impressive freshman campaign with three goals and two assists over two games.  She had a goal and two assists Wednesday in Goldey-Beacom's 5-1 victory at Saint Thomas Aquinas before getting two goals Saturday in her squad's 4-0 triumph at Bloomfield.

Saturday was Ruggeri's third brace of the season and fourth game with at least four points.

Ruggeri's incredible scoring touch and great field awareness continues the tradition of solid goal scorers for the Lightning.  She is 10th in the nation with 2.14 points per game, 11th with 0.57 assists per contest, 13th with eight assists, 15th with 30 points, 21st with 0.79 goals per game and 23rd with 11 goals.

Ruggeri's eight assists already have her tied for eighth on the school's single-season top 10 list and four behind the top mark of 12 held by Line Kristoffersen (Bergen, Norway), set in 2019.  Ruggeri's 11 goals are one of making the College's top 10 for one year.

Her effort has played a huge role in Goldey-Beacom (9-6, 6-4 CACC) sitting fifth in the league with one game remaining, having already clinched a seventh straight berth into the CACC Tournament.  GBC can clinch a home quarterfinal game with a victory Wednesday against Jefferson, coupled with a Wilmington loss to Chestnut Hill.

The Lightning's match Wednesday against the Rams begins at 3:00 pm at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field.
