Men’s Golf Sits Third After Two Rounds of the Hargett Invitational

Goldey-Beacom lit up the course in its first tournament of the new decade, sitting in third place at the J. Ralph Hargett Invitational with just 18 holes remaining.

Freshman Gonzalo Moreno (Seville, Spain) exploded in Monday morning's round with 73 that included a round-best six birdies and followed that with 71 to sit tied for eighth with 144. He entered the spring ranked third in the East Region according to GolfStat.

Freshman Hunter McGee (Carp, ON) followed his opening-round 76 in the morning to card 72 in the afternoon round, putting him tied for 15th with 148. Senior Braden Wheeler (Carleton Place, ON) opened with 71 and closed the day with a 150 total, sitting tied for 20th.

Senior Shea Murphy (Wilmington, DE) is tied for 23rd with 151 that included an opening-round 74 and junior Corbin Babyak (Wallenpaupack, PA) is 47th with 160 after shooting a second-round 78.

Goldey-Beacom over the first 36 holes carded 592, including an opening-round 294 that is an academic-year best and the second-best round in team history. The record is 292 from the Wilmington Fall Classic in 2008.

The Lightning entered the spring ranked seventh in the region according to GolfStat, second best among Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schools.

CACC foes in the tournament include Concordia (NY) tied for fifth at 598 and Wilmington (DE) in seventh at 604.

Final-round action begins Tuesday at 8:30 am in Monroe, NC.
