Goldey-Beacom saw its name all over the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Basketball Weekly Honors with freshman Giovanni Jones (Norfolk, VA) named Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, senior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) picked to the Weekly Honor Roll and both junior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) and freshman Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) each tabbed to the Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.

Jones averaged 8.0 points and 11.5 rebounds over two games.  He had seven points and 14 rebounds Wednesday at Chestnut Hill before getting nine and nine Saturday at Nyack.

Jones has been a key player in the lineup having started 14 of the last 15 contests.  Before that, he was a key member off the bench having scoring 19 points November 17 against regionally ranked Bridgeport.  He is 59th in the league with 7.7 points per game and 13th with 6.5 rebounds per contest.

Taite averaged 20.5 points on 15-of-28 shooting, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals over two games.  He scored 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting with five rebounds, four assists and two steals in Wednesday's 80-51 win at Chestnut Hill.  Taite then played a key role Saturday at Nyack over all 40 minutes, scoring 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting with six rebounds, four assists and two steal in Goldey-Beacom's 70-62 victory.

Taite once again continues to be the backbone for this solid unit and one of the nation's most recognized players.  He is 87th in the country with 18.6 points per game, 94th with 34.7 minutes per contest and second in the league with an .867 free throw percentage.  The reigning CACC Player of the Year and first team all-region pick is the school's career leader with 1,590 points and recently made the Top 100 List for the Bevo Francis Award, given to the top men's basketball player in the country who does not play for an NCAA Division I institution.

GBC (10-11, 8-4 CACC) is in second place in the CACC South Division, one full game ahead of Holy Family (6-4).  The two meet Tuesday in Pike Creek, beginning at 8:00 pm.

McGrogan averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds. 5.0 assists and 4.0 steal over two games.  She scored 24 points to go with four assists and four steals Wednesday at Chestnut Hill.  McGrogan then had a big day Saturday at Nyack with 15 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and four steals in Goldey-Beacom's 65-54 win.

A vital piece to the Lightning's puzzle, McGrogan is 41st in the country with 85 free throws, 86th with 16.5 points per game, second in the league with 93 free throws and 12th with a .756 free throw percentage.  She has scored in double figures the last 12 games and has four double-doubles this season, including two of the last three contests.

Harrison averaged 13.0 points on 11-of-16 shooting, 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 1.0 steals with a pair of double-doubles.  She opened Wednesday with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting and 11 rebounds at Chestnut Hill.  Harrison was a major factor Saturday at Nyack with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting and 12 rebounds.

Harrison truly has come into her own in the paint during the new calendar year.  In 2019, she has scored in double figures five times that includes three of the last four contests.  Harrison also has notched at least 11 rebounds each of the last three games.

Goldey-Beacom (10-11, 6-4) sits fourth in the CACC South Division, one full game ahead of Holy Family (4-4).  The teams meet on Tuesday at 6:00 pm.

The doubleheader is part of Mental Health Awareness Night.  Mental health awareness recently has become a high priority among NCAA and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference institutions.  Medical problems usually have a psychological or emotional consequence such as eating disorders and substance-related problems.  Student-athletes who suffer depression increase their risk of injury as the mind and body affect one another.
