Women’s Basketball Repeats on the WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll

Goldey-Beacom for a second straight year earned a spot on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 Team Honor Roll.

The squad finished eighth in the country with a 3.79 grade point average, up from its 22nd-place showing and 3.702 GPA last season. Goldey-Beacom was the only squad from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference to make the top 25 and was the second-best team from the East Region with Mercy ending first in the country.

It is the third time in five years Goldey-Beacom has been cited by the WBCA. The team received a "Special Mention" for academic excellence in 2022 by the association.

Five for the Lightning made the CACC All-Academic Team and that included senior Karlee Lemon (Williamsburg, VA), junior Genesis Garcia (Aguada, PR) and sophomores Lydia Betz (Pittsburgh, PA), Marasia Dyes (Binghamton, NY) and Janie Cross (West Deptford, NJ).

Betz, Dyes, Garcia and Lemon also were picked College Sports Communicators Academic All-District.

Betz had an outstanding campaign in developing as one of the program's top overall players. She ended 17th in the league with 10.7 points per game, fourth with a .796 free throw percentage, seventh with 1.0 blocks per game and ninth with a .458 field goal percentage.
