Golf Wins the Griffin Invitational and Hunter McGee Takes Medalist Honors

An incredible and highly successful fall campaign for Goldey-Beacom's Golf team ended today with the squad capturing the Griffin Invitational and freshman Hunter McGee (Carp, ON) winning the individual crown.

The Lightning on Tuesday again went on a tear with a final-round 300, ending with 601 to win by a stunning 35 shots. Fellow Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foes Felician, Chestnut Hill, Dominican (NY) and University of the Sciences also were in the field.

The day on the individual side belonged to McGee, who carded a final-round 73 to end the championship with 147. His 36-hole score is a career best and his total from Tuesday is just two off his personal best.

Freshman Gonzalo Moreno (Seville, Spain) ended tied for second with 151, junior Corbin Babyak (Wallenpaupack, PA) was fourth with 153, senior Shea Murphy (Wilmington, DE) closed tied for fifth with 154 and senior Braden Wheeler (Carleton Place, ON) finished eighth with 156.

This was the Lightning's second victory of the season, which included the Jefferson Classic. The squad ended in the top five in five of its six tournaments and entered the week ranked seventh in the East Region, according to GolfStat. The team also ended second at the CACC Championship.
