(2019 schedule)

Looking to get back into the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, Goldey-Beacom once again faces quality competition as the squad announced its 2019 schedule.

GBC opens the campaign with six games at the February Freeze Out in Myrtle Beach, SC, starting February 15 against Kutztown and Millersville.  The squad also faces Merrimack and Southern New Hampshire on the 16th before battling Saint Anselm and Lock Haven the following day.

The home opener is March 3 against West Chester, one of 14 scheduled doubleheaders at the Jackson Complex.

League play begins March 19 at home against Holy Family and continues two days later with a home twin-bill against reigning league champion Caldwell.  A scheduled 12-game homestand takes place from April 2-11 that includes league doubleheaders against University of the Sciences, Post and Georgian Court.

The home finale is April 24 vs. Chestnut Hill and the regular season ends three days later at Concordia (NY).

All totaled, GBC is scheduled to play seven teams which last season ended regionally ranked (Saint Anselm, Southern New Hampshire, West Chester, Lock Haven, Millersville, Wilmington and Mercy).

The conference tournament takes place May 2-4 at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ.  The top eight teams in the standings compete in the double-elimination foray.

A key bat returning to the lineup is junior Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD), who last season exploded with a .321 batting average to put her 34th in the league.  She also was 21st with nine doubles, 35th with a .473 slugging percentage and 43rd with 19 RBI in starting all 37 games last season.

Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) is back for her senior campaign after starting all 134 of the Lightning's games the last three seasons.  A mainstay at third base, she ended last season 50th in the CACC with 18 RBI, 54th with 33 hits, 60th with a .960 fielding percentage, 49th with a .308 batting average and 43rd with a .378 on base percentage.

Sophomore Taylor Beres (Middletown, DE) also looks to give the squad a lift with both her offense and pitching.  She closed the 2018 campaign ninth in the CACC with 4.62 strikeouts per game, 10th with 10 complete games, 11th with 68 strikeouts and 13th with 103 innings pitched in addition to batting .301.

Goldey-Beacom for the second time in three years was presented the league's team Sportsmanship Award.  The squad for four straight years participated in collecting turkeys and assembling food baskets for the New Castle (DE) County EMS Division Paramedics.  The team took to the Wilmington organization just before Thanksgiving to help cheer up needy families and provide gifts for those underprivileged in the county.

The Lightning in December 2017 also took part in Toys for Tots.  The squad had several boxes placed around campus seeking donations and it received plenty of unwrapped toys that went to the charity celebrating its 70th year.
