Goldey-Beacom's baseball team has been picked to end fifth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division based on a vote by the league's coaches.

Goldey-Beacom (10-35, 5-17 CACC) had an impressive first season under coach Tom Riley after the program was introduced in the fall of 2015.  The squad played its first game as a Division II member February 18 at Barton, its first home game March 5 against Queens (NY), notched its first victory March 24 at Chestnut Hill and its first doubleheader sweep April 21 against Chestnut Hill.

One of the main highlights included senior outfielder Raul Perez-Duran (Trenton, NJ) being named second team All-CACC.  He closed 27th in the CACC with a .299 batting average, 38th with a .389 slugging percentage, 25th with 43 hits, second on the team with 39 2/3 innings pitched, eighth with 14 RBI, tied for third with five steals, fifth with 19 runs and sixth with 18 strikeouts.  Perez-Duran also was the first batter in team history and enters the year with an eight-game hitting streak at Doyle Field.

Another key component back is sophomore outfielder Tevin Thomas (Dover, DE), who made an immediate impact with his hitting and all-around solid play.  He closed 11th in the CACC with a .333 batting average, eighth with a .431 on base percentage, 18th with 26 RBI, 20th with 46 hits, 27th with 27 runs, 35th with a .391 slugging percentage and 45th with five stolen bases.  Thomas also recorded the first hit (single), RBI, stolen base, three-hit game and three-RBI contest in school history.

Senior captain Keegan Marsden (Stratford, ON) gave GBC plenty of consistency in every facet, starting 45 games that included 42 starts at third base and finishing 16th in the CACC with 10 doubles, seventh with 42 runs, eighth with five home runs, 16th with a .410 on base percentage and 17th with a .455 slugging percentage.  Sophomore Brandon Ferrie (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) tossed the most innings for the Lightning a season ago at 53 2/3 frames – 19th in the CACC – and should see even more action this year after closing 24th in the league with 34 strikeouts.

GBC also won the sport's CACC Sportsmanship Award, given to the team which best displays class, character, sportsmanship and competitive spirit.  The conference presents one such award for every sport each academic year.

Goldey-Beacom opens its season February 17 at Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, NC.
