Baseball Splits a Pair at Bloomfield



Goldey-Beacom closed its doubleheader at Bloomfield with a 16-9 win after opening with a wild 18-15 loss during Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play in Newark, NJ.
 
GBC in game two set the tone with five runs in the top of the first inning, keyed by a two-run double from freshman Justin Hill (Seaford, DE).  Freshman Tevin Thomas (Dover, DE) added a two-run double in the second to make it 7-1 and sophomore Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, NJ) ripped a two-run double in the fifth for a 13-1 score.
 
Junior Keegan Marsden (Stratford, ON) closed 4-for-4 with three doubles, Thomas had three hits and three doubles with Hill amassing three hits for the Lightning.  Trenton, NJ junior Raul Perez-Duran (1-2) notched his first collegiate win, striking out three over six innings and yielding nine runs – eight earned – and 11 hits.
 
Isaac Pichardo closed with three hits, Luke Loughery drive in three runs and Charles Castellano (0-2) permitted 10 runs – eight earned – and seven hits over 2 1/3 frames.
 
The Bears in game one scored 11 runs in the last of the first for an 11-2 lead.  Pichardo clubbed a two-run homer after Juan Reina and Cristopher Cabral each recorded two-run hits.
 
Sophomore Calvin Clark (Millville, NJ) rapped a three-run homer in the fifth and Hill hit a two-run blast in the sixth for a 16-7 game.  Thomas in the seventh smacked a two-run shot and Abdul added a solo blast for a 16-15 contest.  But the Bears scored twice in the last of the frame for the final.
 
Thomas had three hits and four RBI with Royersford, PA freshman Brandon Ferrie (0-4) yielding nine runs – four earned – and six hits in recording just two outs for GBC (3-23, 3-13 CACC).
 
Cabral had five RBI with Kendon Strachan recording four for Bloomfield (11-9, 7-2).  Carlos Tejada (4-0) struck out five over five innings, allowing five runs – four earned – and five hits over five frames.  Ellis Sanchez permitted just one hit over the final 2 2/3 innings for the save.
 
Goldey-Beacom
is on the road Tuesday for a make-up doubleheader at Nyack, beginning at 3:00 pm.
