Garrett Brown Closes Second at the Mike Bello Invitational

Goldey-Beacom senior Garrett Brown (Severn, MD) made his case for another NCAA Regional bid by shooting level-par 144 to end second at the Mike Bello Invitational in Baldwinsville, NY.

Playing at a demanding course that hosted last year's regional against players ticketed for golf in May, Brown played the morning round in two-over-par 74. If that was not good enough, he shot two-under-par 70 in the afternoon and closed the championship four shots in back of John Clare from host Le Moyne.

Brown, who competed at the NCAA Regional each of his first two seasons, has 15 sub-80 rounds this academic year and three top-10 finishes. He has six sub-80 rounds this spring.

Freshman Shea Murphy (Wilmington, DE) closed tied for 25th with 157, senior Chris Mandia (Catskill, NY) ended 42nd with 162, fellow senior Tom Hannig (Claymont, DE) was tied for 43rd at 163 and junior Andre Primeau (Pontypool, ON) finished tied for 52nd at 167.

GBC closed the championship fifth with 624, including a final-round 307. Le Moyne won with 602.

Goldey-Beacom on April 25-26 will compete in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Championship. For the second straight year, it will be played at Back Creek Golf Club in Middletown, DE.
