Goldey-Beacom's dedication to community service and overall comradery were recognized in being presented the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's Team Sportsmanship Award.
The squad this season contributed in many endeavors, including participation in collecting turkeys and assembling food baskets for the New Castle (DE) County EMS Division Paramedics. The team took to the Wilmington organization just before Thanksgiving to help cheer up needy families and provide gifts for those underprivileged in the county.
The players also were among the teams who last October participated in the Halloween 5K, which helped raise money for breast-cancer research. As a result, Goldey-Beacom was named the CACC representative and one of 25 finalists for the NCAA Division II Award of Excellence.
Last year, the softball team helped in community service at the Ronald McDonald House in Wilmington.
