LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. - Led by sophomore
Garrett Brown (Glen Burnie H.S./Severn, Md.), the Goldey-Beacom College men's golf team opened its 2014-15 season in strong fashion by posting a 301 team score in a tri-match against Philadelphia University and the University of Pittsburgh Greensburg at The ACE Club on Wednesday afternoon.
While the Lightning tallied a 301 team score to finish first in the tri-match, the host Rams earned second place with a 314 team score while Pitt-Greensburg followed by tallying a 349 team score.
Brown, who represented the Lightning at the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional Championship last season, opened this year by carding a one-under par score of 71.
Meanwhile, freshman
Andre Primeau (Pontypool, Ontario, Canada) posted a 74 in the first round of his college career while senior
Patrick McRae (Markham, Ontario, Canada) followed with a score of 77.
Freshman
Barry Frankel (Century H.S./Sykesville, Md.) tallied a score of 79 in his first collegiate round while sophomore
Tom Hannig (Concord H.S./Claymont, Del.) posted an 86.
Playing as an individual, senior
Tyler McElwee (St. Mark's H.S./Wilmington, Del.) recorded a score of 89.
The Lightning will return to action on Monday, Sept. 15 at the Glade Springs Collegiate.
