CALDWELL, N.J. - Senior infielder Ashley Zaccaria (Gloucester City H.S./Gloucester City, N.J.) became the 13th player in Goldey-Beacom College softball history to reach 100 career hits, but No. 14 Caldwell spoiled the milestone by handing the Lightning a 4-3 loss in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game played at the Cougars' Caldwell Field on Sunday afternoon.

Zaccaria, who posted a pair of hits in the loss, reached the milestone when she singled through the left side to lead off the fourth inning. With 101 hits in her career, Zaccaria is now tied for 11th place on the Lightning's career hits list.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when junior shortstop Megan Fryday (Mission Hills H.S./San Marcos, Calif.) hit an RBI single through the right side.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Lightning tied the game at 1-1. After Zaccaria led off the inning with a single, she scored on a double to left field by sophomore catcher Alivia Schoff (Rising Sun H.S./Colora, Md.) with two outs.

However, the Cougars answered by scoring twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Sophomore utility player Caitlin McCready (Dwyer H.S./Jupiter, Fla.) hit an RBI single through the right side with two outs in the inning before a double by sophomore utility player Brielle Reighn (Triton Regional H.S./Runnemeade, N.J.) plated the Cougars' third run of the game.

The Lightning tied the game in the top of the fifth inning with a pair of runs as sophomore designated player Taylor Ewing (North Dorchester H.S./Hurlock, Md.) singled to right field to drive in a run. An error by the Cougars on the play allowed a second run to score, tying the game at 3-3.

Fryday led off the bottom of the fifth inning with her third home run of the season, a solo shot to left field off senior pitcher Courtney Dolson (Gloucester H.S./Gloucester, N.J.). It gave the Cougars a 4-3 lead they did not relinquish.

Fryday led the Cougars with three hits while driving in two runs with a run scored while Reighn also tallied three hits with a run batted in. Junior pitcher Hanna Walkinshaw (Aptos H.S./Aptos, Calif.) earned the complete game victory after scattering eight hits while striking out seven Goldey-Beacom hitters.

Zaccaria and Ewing each tallied two hits in the loss for Goldey-Beacom, which opened a 13-game road trip with Sunday's defeat.

The Lightning will visit Kutztown University on Tuesday, Apr. 8 for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
