WILMINGTON, Del. – Senior pitcher Courtney Dolson (Gloucester H.S./Gloucester, N.J.) allowed just three hits and recorded her first shutout of the season as Goldey-Beacom College (3-17, 2-11) earned a split of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Wilmington University (12-14, 4-2) at the Lightning's Jackson Athletic Complex on Thursday afternoon.

Led by Dolson, the Lightning earned their first shutout of the season by edging the Wildcats, 1-0, in nine innings in the first game. However, the Wildcats answered by scoring 13 runs in the nightcap en route to a 13-4 victory in a five-inning game.

After battling the Wildcats through eight scoreless innings in the first game, the Lightning earned the one-run victory in the bottom of the ninth inning when freshman utility player Paulynn Mao (Rancho Alamitos H.S./Anaheim, Calif.) hit a double to left field with two outs that scored sophomore Alivia Schoff (Rising Sun H.S./Colora, Md.).

Dolson, who earned her third win of the season, struck out four Wilmington hitters and allowed just one walk.

In the second game, the Wildcats struck for three runs in the opening inning to take a 3-0 lead. After sophomore Ashley Bennett (Delmar H.S./Laurel, Del.) drove in a run with a single to left field, sophomore Jen Fischbach (Caesar Rodney H.S./Camden, Del.) added a pair of runs with a double to left field.

The Lightning trimmed the margin to 3-2 in the bottom of the first inning on a pair of RBI singles by Schoff and freshman Charlee King (Hodgson Vo-Tech H.S./New Castle, Del.).

But, the Wildcats upped the advantage to 7-2 by scoring four times in the second inning. Senior outfielder Meghan Logullo (Caravel Academy/Middletown, Del.) drove in a run with a bunt single before Bennett added a two-run double to left field.

With two outs in the inning, Fischbach posted an RBI single up the middle to give Wilmington a five-run edge.

The Wildcats scored two more runs in the top of the third inning before Schoff hit an RBI double down the left field line, narrowing the Lightning deficit to 9-3.

In the top of the fourth inning, sophomore infielder Caitlin Ziemba (St. Mark's H.S./Wilmington, Del.) increased the Wilmington lead with a run-scoring single to center field before sophomore infielder Katrina Swank (Caravel Academy/Bear, Del.) belted a three-run double in the fifth inning for a 13-3 advantage.

The Lightning cut the margin to 13-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning with a run-scoring single by King, but they were unable to get any closer as the game was called due to the eight-run rule.

King collected three hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Lightning while senior infielder Ashley Zaccaria (Gloucester City H.S./Gloucester City, N.J.) added three hits with a run scored.

Fischbach led the Wildcats by posting five hits, including a three-for-three effort in the second game, with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Meanwhile, Bennett had three hits with four runs batted in and a pair of runs scored.

The Lightning, who split their second CACC doubleheader in three days, will finish their quick four-game homestand on Saturday afternoon by hosting Concordia College in a CACC twinbill at 1 p.m.
