PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Senior outfielder Michelle Foster (Overbrook H.S./West Berlin, N.J.) collected six hits and scored four runs to lead Goldey-Beacom College (2-16, 1-10) to a split of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Chestnut Hill College (2-14, 2-6) at the Chestnut Hill College Softball Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Led by Foster, who posted three hits in each game of the doubleheader, the Lightning earned their first conference victory of the season with a 7-1 victory in the first game. However, the Griffins earned the split after a 5-4 triumph in the nightcap.

After the teams traded a run in the opening inning of the first game, the Lightning took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning when sophomore Alivia Schoff (Rising Sun H.S./Colora, Md.) drove in a run with a single to left field.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Lightning erupted for five runs to take a 7-1 advantage they did not relinquish. After freshman Charlee King (Hodgson Vo-Tech H.S./New Castle, Del.) scored on a wild pitch, the Lightning added another run on a Chestnut Hill error.

With two outs in the inning, Foster upped the Lightning's lead to 6-1 when she hit a two-run double to right center field before senior utility player Roni Peters (Leonardtown H.S./Leonardtown, Md.) added an RBI single to right field.

From there, senior pitcher Courtney Dolson (Gloucester H.S./Gloucester, N.J.) held Chestnut Hill to just one hit over the final four innings to secure the victory.

The Griffins surged out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning of the second game. An RBI single down the left field line by sophomore Sofia Cedrone (Philadelphia, Pa.) gave Chestnut Hill a 1-0 edge before sophomore Nicole Carney (Colony H.S./Ontario, Calif.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, extending the margin to 2-0.

After Cedrone scored on a wild pitch for the Griffins' third run of the inning, sophomore Julie Heaton (Eastern Regional H.S./Berlin, N.J.) increased the lead to 5-0 with a two-run single through the left side.

But, the Lightning answered by scoring four runs in the top of the sixth inning to trim their deficit to 5-4. After an RBI single by senior utility player Ashley Zaccaria (Gloucester City H.S./Gloucester City, N.J.) narrowed the gap to 5-2, Schoff blasted her first home run of the season with a two-run shot to center field with no outs.

However, freshman Briannen Holloway (Corona H.S./Corona, Calif.), who came into the game to relieve sophomore Courtney Dayter (Cohoes H.S./Cohoes, N.Y.) was able to retire the next three batters to end the Lightning's comeback bid. She also retired the Lightning in order in the top of the seventh inning to secure her first career save and salvage the split.

Foster, who moved into second place on the Lightning's career hits list, led the Lightning with six hits in the doubleheader split while Schoff added three hits with four runs driven in.

Heaton led the Griffins by collecting three hits with two runs batted in.

The Lightning will return home on Thursday, Apr. 3 to host local rival Wilmington University in a pair of CACC contests beginning at 3 p.m.
