WILMINGTON, Del. – Senior utility player Roni Peters (Leonardtown H.S./Leonardtown, Md.) drove in the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Goldey-Beacom College (1-6) opened its home schedule by splitting a non-conference doubleheader against East Stroudsburg University (2-5) at the Jackson Athletic Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

After losing the first game by a 7-2 margin, the Lightning defeated the Warriors by a 3-2 count in the nightcap.

Peters, who went 4-for-4 and drove in two runs in the win, gave the Lightning their first win of the season when she hit a single to deep left field that scored senior infielder Ashley Zaccaria (Gloucester City H.S./Gloucester City, N.J.).

In the first inning of the second game, the Lightning took an early 2-0 lead. With one out, Peters drove in a run with a double to center field. After advancing to third base on a wild pitch, she scored on an RBI groundout by sophomore catcher Alivia Schoff (Rising Sun H.S./Colora, Md.) for a two-run advantage.

But, the Warriors rallied in the top of the sixth inning with a pair of runs to tie the game at 2-2. With two outs in the inning, a double by senior first baseman Amanda McKay (Babylon H.S./West Babylon, N.Y.) drove in a pair of runs to end the shutout bid by senior pitcher Courtney Dolson (Gloucester H.S./Gloucester, N.J.).

Dolson recovered to retire the next four hitters in order and set up the Lightning's late-inning heroics.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Warriors took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the Lightning answered with an RBI single by Schoff in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

However, the Warriors used two runs in the fourth inning and three more runs in the fifth inning to build a 6-1 advantage. Junior utility player Cara Woods (Glen Burnie H.S./Glen Burnie, Md.) drove in two of the five runs with a double in the fourth inning and a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

East Stroudsburg added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning on a single up the middle by sophomore utility player Haley Thomas (Northern H.S./Dillsburg, Pa.) for a 7-1 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Lightning narrowed the margin to 7-2 when freshman outfielder Charlee King (Hodgson Vo-Tech H.S./New Castle, Del.) scored on a passed ball with no outs. But, senior Laura Suits (New Paltz H.S./New Paltz, N.Y.) retired the next three hitters to earn her second win of the season.

Peters, who recently became the 12th player in school history to reach the 100-hit mark for her career, and Zaccaria each collected four hits in the doubleheader to lead the Lightning while King added a pair of hits.

En route to earning her first win of the season, Dolson allowed two runs while scattering five hits in the nightcap. She also posted four strikeouts while allowing just one walk.

Woods and junior outfielder Kasey Meckes (Pleasant Valley H.S./Kunkletown, Pa.) each tallied three hits to lead the Warriors. Meckes also scored a pair of runs for the Warriors, who ended a four-game losing streak with their victory in the first game.
