CALDWELL, N.J. - Junior forward Emily Caswell (Prout School/Wakefield, R.I.) scored a game-high 19 points, including 13 in the second half, and added eight rebounds as Caldwell College (13-10, 11-5) ended a three-game losing streak with a 62-59 victory over Goldey-Beacom College (10-13, 7-9) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at the George R. Newman Center on Sunday afternoon.

The win allowed the Cougars to defeat the Lightning for the sixth time in the last eight meetings while handing Goldey-Beacom its third loss in the last four games.

After building a 62-54 lead with 27 seconds remaining in regulation, the Cougars had to hold off a late comeback by the Lightning to earn the victory. Junior guard Lillian Chukwueze (Cherry Hill East H.S./Cherry Hill, N.J.) made a jumper for the Lightning with 20 seconds left to trim the deficit to 62-56. The Cougars missed a free throw with seven seconds remaining, allowing Chukwueze to hit a three-point field goal with five seconds remaining for a 62-59 margin.

The Lightning had one final chance to tie the game after Caldwell missed another free throw, but were unable to get a shot off before time expired.

After the teams field goals twice to open the game, the Lightning scored 15 of the next 22 points to take a 19-11 lead with 14:43 remaining on a jumper by freshman guard Jasmyne Lewis (Rancocas Valley H.S./Mount Laurel, N.J.).

But, the Cougars answered by scoring nine straight points over a three-minute span to gain a 20-19 edge on a three-point field goal from sophomore guard Nicole Angelo (Camden Catholic H.S./Mount Laurel, N.J.) with 11:27 remaining in the opening stanza.

The teams traded the lead four times before the Lightning claimed a 29-28 edge on a jumper by junior forward Dakia Manning (Freire Charter H.S./East Lansdowne, Pa.) with 2:59 remaining in the period. With 17 seconds left in the first half, the Cougars regained the one-point edge on a jumper by senior guard Marielle Duryea (Archbishop Molloy H.S./Middle Village, N.Y.).

After the Cougars extended their lead to 38-35 in the opening four minutes of the second half, the Lightning answered by scoring 12 of the next 16 points to take a 47-42 advantage on a Manning lay-up with 11:08 left in the period.

But, the Cougars rallied to regain the lead by going on a 13-4 run for a 55-51 edge with 5:24 remaining. After a jumper by junior forward Chelsea Grover (Seneca H.S./Southampton, N.J.) trimmed the margin to 55-53, the Cougars scored seven of the next eight points to take their largest lead and set up the Lightning's comeback bid.

One of three Caldwell players to score in double figures, Caswell made 9 of 16 shots from the floor to lead the Cougars to the victory. Angelo added 16 points after making 6 of 12 field goal attempts while freshman forward Alyssa James (St. Mary's H.S./Rosedale, N.J.) contributed 15 points with eight rebounds and six blocked shots.

Grover posted her fifth "double double" of the season to lead the Lightning in the loss, scoring 14 points while matching a season high with 11 rebounds. Chukwueze, Lewis and Manning each added 10 points for Goldey-Beacom.

The Lightning, who remain in fourth place in the CACC South Division standings, will play their final road contest of the regular season on Tuesday, Feb. 18 by traveling to Wilmington University for a 6 p.m. contest against the Wildcats.
