PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Sophomore defender
Angelo Dambalas (Cherokee H.S./Marlton, N.J.) scored the match's only goal in the 85th minute as Philadelphia University (3-2-0, 1-1-0) held off Goldey-Beacom College (0-5-0, 0-2-0) to earn a 1-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at the Rams' Ravenhill Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Rams, who played in their third game decided by a goal this season, earned their third win in the last four matches.
Dambalas gave the Rams a one-goal lead when he converted a pass from senior defender
David Lawrence (Wilbraham & Monson Academy/Wilbraham, Mass.) with 5:05 remaining in regulation. It was Dambalas' team-leading third goal of the season.
The Lightning had a chance to tie the game in the 86th minute, but a shot attempt from senior midfielder
Andre Jank (Campo Grande, Brazil) went wide and the Rams were able to retain the one-goal edge.
Junior goalkeeper
Thomas Attamante (West Orange H.S./West Orange, N.J.) made one save to earn his second shutout of the season.
Meanwhile, senior goalkeeper
Carlos Meinhard (Caracas, Venezuela) recorded a career-high 14 saves in a losing effort for the Lightning, who were outshot by a 24-9 margin.
Goldey-Beacom, which has played its first five matches on the road, will play its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 21 as the Lightning face Post University in a 1 p.m. CACC match at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field. The Rams will continue their schedule on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Caldwell.
