LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. - Competing in the first event of his college career, freshman
Garrett Brown fired a one-over-par score of 73 to lead the Goldey-Beacom College men's golf team to its first win of the season against Philadelphia University and Nyack College in a tri-match at The ACE Club on Sunday afternoon.
The Lightning shot 318 as a team while the host Rams finished nine strokes back in second place. The Warriors recorded a 347 team score to earn third place.
While leading the Lightning to the victory, Brown posted a birdie on each of the first two holes.
Meanwhile, senior
Matthew Japchen followed Brown by carding a seven-over-par score of 79 while junior
Matthew Scheeper followed with a score of 80.
A pair of newcomers -
Tom Hannig and
Tyler McElwee - made their Goldey-Beacom debuts against Philadelphia University and Nyack. Hannig carded an 86 while McElwee posted a score of 93.
The Lightning will return to action next weekend by competing at the Dowling September Shootout at the Long Island National Golf Course.
