2013 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional Championship Final Results
WHEELING, W.Va. - Competing in the final round of his college career, senior
Jeff Whiteside (Newark H.S./Bear, Del.) shot a career-low 69 as three members of the Goldey-Beacom College men's golf team finished play at the 2013 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional Championship at the Oglebay Resort on Wednesday afternoon.
Indiana University of Pennsylvania earned the team championship and will advance to the NCAA Championship along with Wilmington University and California University (Pa.).
Whiteside, who had posted back-to-back rounds of 79 to begin the tournament, used a strong start on Wednesday after recording a birdie on five of his first nine holes. In addition, he added back-to-back birdies on the back nine to give him his second under-par round of the season.
Whiteside, who was the Lightning's lone golfer to compete in every tournament this year, finished the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional in a tie for 19th place.
Meanwhile, junior
Patrick McRae (Markham, Ontario, Canada) also had his best round of the tournament on Wednesday after shooting a five-over par 76. After posting a bogey on three consecutive holes to finish the front nine, he answered by earning a birdie on each of the final two holes in the round.
With a three-round score of 233, McRae finished the tournament in a tie for 46th place.
Freshman
Brett Moore (West Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada) earned a share of 103rd place after carding an 88 in the final round.
The Lightning will return five of their seven players next year, including McRae and Moore.
