Game 2
WILMINGTON, Del. – Led by freshman outfielder
Alicia Alvarado (Paraclete H.S./Palmdale, Calif.), Holy Family University (13-11, 8-2) extended its win streak to five consecutive games by sweeping a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader over Goldey-Beacom College (9-15, 5-7) at the Lightning's Jackson Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon.
Holy Family, which has won 9 of their last 11 games, erupted for a season-high 10 runs in the first game en route to a 10-0 victory over the Lightning before taking the nightcap by a 4-1 margin.
The Tigers took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning in the first game. After junior
Roni Peters (Leonardtown H.S./Leonardtown, Md.) recorded the first two outs of the inning, she hit Alvarado with a pitch before a single by junior
AnnMarie Dalton (Northampton Area H.S./Northampton, Pa.) moved Alvarado to third base.
After back-to-back walks scored Alvarado for the Tigers' first run, senior catcher
Deanna Myers (William Tennent H.S./Warminster, Pa.) upped the Holy Family advantage to 3-0 with a two-run single to center field.
Myers extended the lead to 4-0 in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI triple to center field before scoring on an RBI groundout by junior
Hayley Brennan (Indian River H.S./Frankford, Del.) for a five-run cushion.
The Tigers added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning on a pair of unearned runs with one out as Dalton and sophomore
Kelsi Bunda (Pennsbury H.S./Yardley, Pa.) scored after a strikeout and throwing error by freshman catcher
Alivia Schoff (Rising Sun H.S./Colora, Md.).
In the seventh inning, Holy Family scored three more runs on a two-run single by Bunda and an RBI single by Dalton.
Led by junior
Rachael Alligood (Harry S. Truman H.S./Levittown, Pa.), the Tigers held Goldey-Beacom to just four hits en route to the victory. Alligood, who upped her record to 3-3 on the season, did not allow a hit until the sixth inning while posting three strikeouts.
In the second game, the Tigers took advantage of three Goldey-Beacom errors to take a 4-0 lead. After Myers walked to open the inning, she advanced to third base when junior
Erin Corrado (St. Mark's H.S./Fair Hill, Md.) reached on a throwing error by sophomore
Asia Ellis (Lenape H.S./Marlton, N.J.).
With two outs in the inning, both Corrado and Myers scored when senior
Lindsey Iden (Council Rock North H.S./Rushland, Pa.) tripled to right field. Bunda singled home Iden to increase the advantage to 3-0 before a single by freshman
Kristine Casey (Caravel H.S./Newark, Del.) increased the margin to 4-0.
The Lightning narrowed the deficit to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when senior
Ashley Antosh (Twin Valley H.S./Honey Brook, Pa.) hit an RBI double to right center field.
But, the Lightning were unable to get any closer as junior
Victoria Reuscher (Little Flower H.S. for Girls/Cheltenham, Pa.) retired seven of the final eight batters she faced to secure the doubleheader sweep.
