Men's Golf Ends Regular Season With 6th Place Effort

Moore, Whiteside Lead Lightning in Tie for 11th Place

Devon Ripley and the Lightning will now await to see if they earn an NCAA Regional berth.

INDIANA, Pa. – Freshman Brett Moore (West Kelowna, B.C., Canada) and senior Jeff Whiteside (Newark H.S./Bear, Del.) each finished in a tie for 11th place as Goldey-Beacom College earned a share of sixth place at the 50th Annual IUP-Cecil Spadafora Golf Invitational hosted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Monday afternoon.

California University of Pennsylvania earned the team championship after posting a two-round team score of 589 while senior Sean Sweithelm (Indiana H.S./Indiana, Pa.) of IUP claimed the individual medalist honor after carding an even-par total of 142.

Moore, who fired an opening round score of 74 on Sunday, finished the tournament with a four-over par round of 75. Meanwhile, Whiteside shot a 78 (+7) in the second round after posting an even-par round on Sunday afternoon.

Junior Patrick McRae (Markham, Ontario, Canada) finished in a tie for 26th place after shooting a 79 on Monday. He also posted a 75 in Sunday's opening round. Junior Matthew Japchen (Central Bucks West H.S./New Britain, Pa.) finished the tournament in a tie for 57th place after a two-round score of 162.

Senior Devon Ripley (Caesar Rodney H.S./Camden, Del.) fired a two-round score of 170 to finish the tournament in 70th place.

The Lightning will now await the announcement of the selections for the 2013 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional Championship, which will take place on Apr. 26. Goldey-Beacom has qualified for the NCAA Regional Championship in seven of the last eight years.
