WILMINGTON, Del. – Junior utility player
Roni Peters (Leonardtown H.S./Leonardtown, Md.) had two hits and drove in two runs as Goldey-Beacom College (1-5) earned a split of a non-conference doubleheader against Mansfield University (3-4) at the Lightning's Jackson Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
After dropping the first game by a 2-0 margin in eight innings, the Lightning earned their first victory by posting a 5-2 victory over the Mountaineers.
In the second game, the Mountaineers took a 2-0 lead in the third inning off senior pitcher

Ashley Inman (Tunkhannock H.S./Tunkhannock, Pa.) gave Mansfield a 1-0 lead with an infield single that scored sophomore

But, the Lightning answered with five consecutive runs to take a 5-2 lead, including three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Sophomore
Samantha Alonzo (Roy C. Ketcham H.S./Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) reached on a throwing error with one out to score junior
Courtney Dolson (Gloucester H.S./Gloucester, N.J.) and cut the deficit to 2-1.
A fielder's choice by Peters drove in freshman catcher
Alivia Schoff (Rising Sun H.S./Colora, Md.) to tie the game at 2-2 before an RBI single by freshman second baseman
Madison Newhouser (North Schuylkill H.S./Ashland, Pa.) gave Goldey-Beacom a 3-2 advantage.
In the fifth inning, the Lightning upped their lead to 4-2 when junior outfielder
Michelle Foster (Overbrook H.S./West Berlin, N.J.) walked with the bases loaded to score Alonzo. They added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Peters hit a single to left field that scored sophomore outfielder
Alexa Houston (Sussex Central H.S./Georgetown, Del.).
The Mountaineers scored two runs in the eighth inning to claim a 2-0 victory in the first game. Junior outfielder
Stephanie Simmeth (St. Mary's H.S./Cheektowaga, N.Y.) gave Mansfield a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Miller from third base.
With one out in the inning, sophomore infielder
Amanda Goodwin (Troy H.S./Troy, Pa.) scored on a passed ball to increase the advantage to 2-0.
The Lightning were able to get a pair of runners on base in the bottom of the eighth inning, but senior pitcher
Caitlin Klobosits (Whitehall H.S./Coplay, Pa.) earned the final three outs to post her third victory of the season.
Peters was one of four Lightning players to record a pair of hits in the doubleheader. Schoff also had two hits against Mansfield, including a double, while Newhouser and freshman utility player
Taylor Ewing (North Dorchester H.S./Hurlock, Md.) each added two hits.
Antosh improved to 1-2 on the season after scattering just four hits in the second game while posting six strikeouts with just one earned run.
Klobosits earned the victory in the first game after limiting Goldey-Beacom to just three hits while striking out a season-high 14 batters.
The Lightning will continue their 14-game homestand on Sunday afternoon by facing Kutztown University in a pair of non-conference games beginning at 1 p.m.
