BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Junior utility player Roni Peters (Leonardtown H.S./Leonardtown, Md.) had two hits and drove in two runs as Goldey-Beacom College (6-8, 3-1) earned a split of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader over Bloomfield College (8-7, 1-3) on Saturday afternoon.

After the Lightning overcame an early 2-0 deficit to edge Bloomfield by a 3-2 margin in the first game, the Deacons snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 7-2 victory in the nightcap.

In the first game, the Deacons took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when senior outfielder Amanda Svenson (Middletown North H.S./Middletown, N.J.) hit a two-run home run with two outs. It was her third home run of the season.

But, the Lightning answered with three unanswered runs in the final three innings to earn the victory. After Peters tied the game with a two-run single in the top of the fifth inning, junior third baseman Ashley Zaccaria (Gloucester City H.S./Gloucester City, N.J.) gave the Lightning a 3-2 lead when she scored on a passed ball in the seventh inning.

Senior Ashley Antosh (Twin Valley H.S./Honey Brook, Pa.) recorded three consecutive outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure her fourth consecutive victory.

Peters gave the Lightning an early 1-0 lead in the second game when she scored on a wild pitch in the first inning. But, the Deacons answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-1 advantage. After junior shortstop Angie Yoshizu (University Laboratory H.S./Kaneohe, Hawaii) stole home with one out, senior Krystina Poloni (Pearl River H.S./Pearl River, N.Y.) hit a three-run home run.

The Lightning closed the margin to 4-2 in the top of the second inning when Zaccaria scored on a Bloomfield error with one out.

After a solo home run by junior infielder Toni Coleman (Port St. Lucie H.S./Port St. Lucie, Fla.) upped the Deacons' advantage to 5-2 in the bottom of the third inning, Poloni added a solo home run in the fifth inning. Senior outfielder Ashton Corley (San Pasqual H.S./Escondido, Calif.) extended the advantage to 7-2 with an RBI single in the sixth inning.

While Peters led the Lightning with two hits, Zaccaria also contributed a pair of hits while scoring three runs.

The Lightning, who were playing their first road games of the season, will return to the Jackson Athletic Complex on Wednesday, Mar. 27 to host Millersville University in a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m.
