WILMINGTON, Del. - After having its non-conference doubleheader against Millersville postponed on Tuesday afternoon, the Goldey-Beacom College softball team will resume its season-opening homestand on Wednesday, Mar. 13 by hosting Lincoln University in a non-conference doubleheader at the Jackson Athletic Complex.
The first game will begin at 2:30 p.m. while the second game will begin approximately 20 minutes after the first game has concluded.
Now 1-7 this season, the Lightning will be looking to bounce back from a tough pair of losses against Kutztown University on Sunday afternoon. The Bears won the first game by an 8-0 margin before scoring a season-high 10 runs en route to a 10-0 victory in the nightcap. Freshman second baseman
Madison Newhouser (North Schuylkill H.S./Ashland, Pa.) was one of five Goldey-Beacom players to post a pair of hits against the Bears on Sunday, including her first triple of the season.
Newhouser is the Lightning's leading hitter with a .308 average and has also posted a team-high eight hits through the first eight games. Meanwhile, junior utility player
Roni Peters (Leonardtown H.S./Leonardtown, Md.) has contributed a .292 batting average with seven base hits.
Peters is also one of three Goldey-Beacom pitchers who has seen time in the circle this season, posting a 5.25 earned run average while recording two strikeouts. Junior
Courtney Dolson (Gloucester H.S./Gloucester, N.J.) has a 3.60 earned run average, but has been able to record her first win of the season in three decisions. Senior
Ashley Antosh (Twin Valley H.S./Honey Brook, Pa.) has pitched a team-high 29.2 innings so far this year and has a 1-3 record with a 4.25 earned run average.
Currently 3-2 on the season, the Bears will be looking to begin a winning streak after edging Livingstone College by an 8-7 margin on Sunday afternoon. Junior first baseman
Jasmine Dabney (New Town H.S./Baltimore, Md.) went two-for-four in the victory, including the eventual game-winning hit, as the Bears overcame a 6-0 deficit to earn the victory.
Dabney is the Lions' leading hitter with a .500 batting average while also contributing a team-high eight hits. She has also scored five runs for the Bears, who have averaged 7.0 runs per game.
The Lightning earned a pair of victories over the Lions last year, winning by scores of 18-0 and 16-0.
After Wednesday's doubleheader, the Lightning will open their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule on Saturday, Mar. 16 with a doubleheader against Felician in the final two games of the homestand. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
