PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - For the third time in as many games, the University of the Sciences (3-0, 1-0) used some late heroics to claim the win as junior guard Brianne Traub (Eastern Christian H.S./Wayne, N.J.) hit a jumper with one second left to give the Devils a 57-55 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Goldey-Beacom College (1-2, 0-1) at Bobby Morgan Arena on Tuesday evening.

Traub, who was named as the CACC Player of the Week on Monday, tied the game at 55-55 when she scored on a lay-up with 49 seconds remaining in regulation.

After junior forward Chelsea Grover (Seneca H.S./Southampton, N.J.) was called for an offensive foul with 28 seconds remaining, Traub gave the Devils a two-point advantage on a jumper off an assist from junior guard Kaitlyn Schmid (Howell H.S./Howell, N.J.). It marked the second time this season Traub has hit a game-winning shot for the Devils.

The Lightning had one last chance to earn the win as time expired, but a three-point attempt from junior guard Lillian Chukwueze (Cherry Hill East H.S./Cherry Hill, N.J.) missed and the Devils earned the victory.

The loss spoiled a tremendous second half effort from the Lightning, who overcame a five-point deficit at the intermission to build a five-point lead with 5:46 remaining in the second half on a pair of free throws by Grover.

But, the Devils answered by scoring seven of the next points to even the score at 53-53 on two free throws by freshman guard Camille McPherson (Mount St. Dominic Academy/West Orange, N.J.).

Junior guard Shantia Creech (Hunt H.S./Philadelphia, Pa.) regained the Lightning lead with 1:08 left on a lay-up to set up the game-winning heroics by Traub.

Led by 10 points from Traub, the Devils sprinted out to a 30-25 lead in the first half. She made five of eight field goal attempts in the opening stanza and also added three rebounds.

While scoring a game-high 22 points with nine rebounds, Traub converted 11 of 24 shots from the floor as the University of the Sciences shot 35.9 per cent from the field.

Chukwueze led the Lightning in the loss by posting her first "double double" of the season with a team-high 18 points and 11 rebounds while Grover added 10 rebounds with eight points. Senior forward Briana Richmond-Peters (Brimm Medical Arts H.S./Camden, N.J.) contributed nine points with eight rebounds for the Lightning, who suffered their second straight loss.

The Lightning will continue their season-opening seven-game road trip on Friday, Nov. 15 by playing Shippensburg University in the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic at 6 p.m.
