WATERBURY, Conn. – Sophomore Roni Peters (Leonardtown H.S./Leonardtown, Md.) had four hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in three runs as Goldey-Beacom College (16-15, 6-6) earned a split of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader over Post University (9-23, 7-9) at the Eagles' LaMoy Field on Friday afternoon.

The Lightning earned a 3-1 victory in the first game before the Eagles rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the nightcap for a 6-5 decision in the second game.

Along with her performance at the plate, Peters also pitched a complete game in the Lightning's 3-1 victory and scattered six hits while upping her record to 6-3.

In the first game, the Lightning took a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning when Peters hit an RBI double that scored sophomore Michelle Foster (Overbrook H.S./West Berlin, N.J.). But, the Eagles answered in the bottom of the inning when sophomore Stephanie DeMartino (St. John Villa Academy/Staten Island, N.Y.) drove in a run with a double down the left field line.

Freshman Samantha Alonzo (Roy C. Ketcham H.S./Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) regained the advantage for Goldey-Beacom in the top of the seventh inning when she hit a two-run double down the left field line.

Peters retired the side in the seventh inning to preserve the victory for Goldey-Beacom.

Led by Peters, the Lightning gained a quick 3-0 edge in the first inning. After Peters drove in a pair of runs with a double down the left field line, senior Jordan Waterloo (Thomas Stone H.S./Waldorf, Md.) upped the advantage to 3-0 when she singled to right field, which allowed Peters to score.

In the fifth inning, Waterloo drove in another run with an infield single for a 4-0 lead before the Eagles started their comeback.

After narrowing the gap to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Eagles erupted for five runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-4 lead they did not relinquish. Junior Lianna May (Southern Cayuga Central H.S./King Ferry, N.Y.) and sophomore Casey Sclafani (Saint Edmund Prep/Brooklyn, N.Y.) hit RBI singles to close the gap to 4-3 before DeMartino hit a three-run double to give Post a two-run cushion.

Freshman Katrina Swank (Caravel Academy/Bear, Del.) trimmed the deficit to 6-5 in the top of the seventh with a single to left center field, but the Lightning was not able to get any closer.

While Peters led the Lightning to the doubleheader split, Foster added a pair of runs while extending her hitting streak to 13 straight games by hitting safely in each game.

DeMartino led the Eagles with three hits in the doubleheader along with four runs batted in. Sclafani contributed four hits with an RBI.

The Lightning will return home on Monday afternoon to host Dominican College in a CACC doubleheader at 3 p.m. Meanwhile, the Eagles will host the University of the Sciences on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader that starts at 12 p.m.
