WILMINGTON, Del. – Senior outfielder
Shannon Graves (Glassboro H.S./Glassboro, N.J.) collected three hits and scored two runs as Goldey-Beacom College (19-20, 9-11) split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Bloomfield College (25-18, 11-11) at the Lightning's Jackson Athletic Complex on Monday afternoon.
After overcoming a 2-0 deficit to win the first game by a 3-2 margin, the Lightning dropped the nightcap by a 7-3 verdict. The doubleheader split allowed Bloomfield to remain in a tie for sixth place in the CACC standings with Post and Holy Family. Meanwhile, the Lightning remains in ninth place in the standings with a 9-11 conference record.
The Deacons, who were playing for the second straight day, took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning in the first game when junior
Lindsay Ciresa (White House, N.J.) hit a two-run double to left field with two outs.
However, the Lightning scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 2-2 as sophomore pitcher
Roni Peters (Leonardtown H.S./Leonardtown, Md.) hit a two-run single to right field with one out.
After retiring the Deacons in the top of the seventh inning, the Lightning earned the 3-2 victory when senior catcher
Danie Rice (Kingsway Regional H.S./Mullica Hill, N.J.) singled with two outs to score Graves from second base.
The Deacons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the nightcap by scoring twice in the third inning. With one out in the inning, junior outfielder
Ashton Corley (San Pasqual H.S./Escondido, Calif.) reached on a fielder's choice to score junior
Samantha Dugan (Port Monmouth, N.J.). Bloomfield upped the lead to 2-0 on a sacrifice fly by sophomore shortstop

But, Goldey-Beacom answered in the bottom of the fifth inning with three runs with a bases-loaded triple to right center by freshman shortstop
Samantha Alonzo (Roy C. Ketcham H.S./Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) that cleared the bases.
Trailing by a 3-2 margin in the sixth inning, the Deacons scored three hits on four runs to take a 5-3 lead they did not relinquish. After Dugan singled to left field to tie the game at 3-3, junior
Alexandria Smith (Kileen, Texas) added two more runs when she singled with two outs.
The Deacons added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning on a Goldey-Beacom error and wild pitch before retiring the Lightning in the bottom of the inning.
Smith led the Deacons to the doubleheader split by driving in a pair of runs with two hits and a run scored. She also pitched for the Deacons in the first game, allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out nine batters.
While Graves led the Lightning in the doubleheader, Peters improved to 8-5 after throwing her sixth complete game of the season in the 3-2 victory. She allowed two runs on five hits and struck out three hitters.
The Lightning, which has split its last three doubleheaders, will wrap up a six-game homestand on Tuesday afternoon by hosting Philadelphia University at 3:30 p.m. During the doubleheader, Goldey-Beacom College will be raising money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation with a “Swing for the Stars” fundraiser.
Meanwhile, the Deacons will return home on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader against Pace University.
