WILMINGTON, Del.
– Junior outfielder Shelby Thompson (St. Elizabeth's H.S./Newark, Del.) had four hits and scored three runs as Wilmington University (10-15, 2-0) extended its win streak to six straight games by sweeping a Central Athletic Collegiate Conference doubleheader over Goldey-Beacom College (11-6, 2-2) at the Lightning's Jackson Athletic Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

After posting an 8-0 victory in a five-inning game, the Wildcats broke a 2-2 tie by scoring four unanswered runs en route to a 6-2 verdict in the nightcap.

The Wildcats took a quick 1-0 lead in the first game when sophomore Christin Headley (Sussex Central H.S./Georgetown, Del.) hit an RBI double to left field.

In the second inning, Wilmington extended its advantage to 4-0 by scoring three runs. After junior Brooke Berger (Ridley H.S./Ridley Park, Pa.) drove in a run on a single with one out, Headley upped the Wildcats' lead to 3-0 with an RBI groundout. She scored to give Wilmington a four-run cushion when senior Kinsley Parker (Sussex Central H.S./Millsboro, Del.) tripled to center field.

The Wildcats added three more runs in the fourth inning to increase the advantage to 7-0. After Parker drove in a pair of runs on a single to left field, junior Jillian Stafford (Gloucester H.S./Gloucester City, N.J.) added an RBI triple to right field, which allowed Parker to score.

Thompson scored on a double by Parker in the fifth inning, giving the Wildcats an eight-run lead they did not relinquish.
In the second game, the Lightning took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when freshman shortstop Samantha Alonzo (Roy C. Ketchum H.S./Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) belted her team-leading third home run to left center field.

But, the Wildcats answered with two runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 2-1 advantage. After senior Kristin Garvin (Pennsville H.S./Pennsville, N.J.) scored on an error to tie the game at 1-1, freshman pitcher Chelsea Botsch (Smyrna H.S./Smyrna, Del.) gave Wilmington a one-run lead when she scored on a fielder's choice.

However, the Lightning tied the game in the bottom of the inning when freshman Katrina Swank hit a single up the middle to score senior Shannon Graves (Glassboro H.S./Glassboro, N.J.).

Wilmington regained a one-run lead in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI double by senior Amanda Crockett (North East H.S./North East, Md.) before extending the cushion to 6-2 with three more runs in the seventh inning on three Goldey-Beacom errors.

While Thompson led the Wildcats to the doubleheader sweep, Parker contributed four hits and four runs batted in. Junior Katie Warrington (Red Lion Christian H.S./Townsend, Del.) recorded her third shutout of the season in the first game by limiting Goldey-Beacom to just four hits while posting nine strikeouts. Botsch earned her second win of the season in the nightcap by allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out nine Goldey-Beacom hitters.

Senior Jordan Waterloo (Thomas Stone H.S./Waldorf, Md.) led the Lightning in a losing effort with three hits while Alonzo, the reigning CACC Rookie of the Week, had two hits and a run batted in.

The Lightning, which had a 10-game win streak snapped in the first game, will travel to West Chester on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader at 2:30 p.m.
