WILMINGTON, Del. - Looking to earn its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory of the season, the Lightning men's soccer team will open a two-match road trip on Saturday afternoon by traveling to Post University for a 3 p.m. match against the Eagles at LaMoy Field.
Now 2-8-0 overall and 0-6-0 in the CACC, the Lightning have dropped three straight matches after suffering a 6-1 setback against Shippensburg University on Wednesday afternoon at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex. After battling to a 1-1 tie in the first half, the Raiders scored five unanswered goals to earn the victory.
Senior goalkeeper
Ignacio Farias (Maracay, Venezuela) led the Lightning by making eight saves en route to becoming the program's all-time leader with 285 career saves, passing
Garrett Shuler for the record.
Junior midfielder
Andre Jank (Campo Grande, Brazil) is the Lightning's leading scorer with two goals while junior forward
Thatcher Howell (Salesianum H.S./Wilmington, Del.) has contributed a goal with two assists. Meanwhile, Farias has started the last eight matches and has posted a 3.09 goals against average while stopping 68.5 per cent of the shots he has faced.
Ranked seventh in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire NCAA Division II East Region poll, the Eagles improved to 5-2-3 overall and 3-0-3 in the CACC with a 0-0 double overtime draw against Bloomfield on Wednesday afternoon at LaMoy Field. The win allowed the Eagles to extend their home unbeaten streak to 14 consecutive matches.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Andre Lindsay (Clarendon, Jamaica) earned the first shutout of his college career by making four saves, including a key stop in the second overtime period to protect the tie.
Junior forward
Joe Baccielo (Platt Tech/Stratford, Conn.) leads the Eagles' offense with 11 goals and four assists. With 26 points, he is tied for the CACC lead while his 11 goals in 10 appearances rank second in the conference. Meanwhile, senior forward
Francis Eno (McEachern H.S./Powder Springs, Ga.) has contributed three goals in five matches for the Eagles, who lead the CACC with 23 goals as a team.
Senior goalkeeper
Errol Reid (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) ranks second in the CACC by allowing just eight goals this season while posting an .800 save percentage, which ranks fourth in the CACC. With a 1.07 goals against average, he ranks fifth in the CACC.
The Lightning will be looking to avenge last year's 3-1 Homecoming loss against the Eagles when the two teams tangle on Saturday. After Jank scored the game's first goal just over three minutes into the first half, the Eagles answered with three consecutive goals to earn the victory.
Following Saturday's clash at Post, the Lightning will travel to Holy Family on Wednesday to face the Tigers at 4 p.m. before returning home on Saturday for a Homecoming affair against Caldwell at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field.
