PIKE CREEK, Del. – Senior Heather Draper pitched her ninth career complete-game shutout victory to help the Goldey-Beacom College softball team earn a split with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe, Holy Family on Senior Day, Tues. afternoon at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field.
Draper and fellow senior Jackie Waddle, both four-year players in the Lightning softball program, were honored before the game. The senior duo has been a part of 59 Lightning wins, including a terrific turnaround from 2008 to 2009 where the Lightning nearly tripled their win total.
The Lightning's record moves to 17-17 overall and 8-14 in league play while the Tigers are now 8-25 (5-12 CACC).
Junior Danie Rice, after becoming the all-time leader in career RBI at Wilmington yesterday, became just the seventh player in school history to reach 100 career hits with her single through the left side of the infield in the bottom of the second inning in game one.
Game 1:
The Lightning scored a run in the second and fourth innings while Draper pitched a three-hit, complete-game shutout to earn her seventh victory of the season in the first game. Draper struck out four and walked just one batter.
Sophomore Angelina Myers singled to left-center field to bring home Cavanaugh in the bottom of the second to give Draper the only run she would need the entire game.
Then in the bottom of the fourth, the Lightning added an insurance run as junior Shannon Graves singled to bring home freshman Ashley Zaccaria, who had gotten on base via her second walk of the game. This run extended the lead to 2-0, and that would prove to be the final score of the game.

Game 2:
Holy Family picked up the victory in game two behind the strong pitching of senior Rebecca Costa, who pitched a complete-game two-hitter. Costa surrendered a first inning run, but after the run-scoring double by Rice, settled down and only allowed one hit in the final six innings. She struck out five batters while earning her first win of the season.
The Tigers tied the game in the top half of the third inning as Shauna Vennell led the inning off with a double. Vennell would later score as Samantha Borrelli singled up the middle.
In the following inning, HFU tacked on a pair of runs to take a 3-1 lead. Danielle McDevitt, who came into the game leading the league in on-base percentage, highlighted the inning with an RBI single scoring Vennell who earlier had walked.
The visitors added a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings to secure the 5-1 victory.
