Lightning Golf Finish Third at CACC Tournament

LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – The Goldey-Beacom College golf team finished in third place at the two-day, 36-hole Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference golf tournament, hosted by Chestnut Hill at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club.
The Lightning shot a 629 (318, 311) as a team, finishing 21 strokes back of five-time reigning conference champion Post (608) and 28 strokes back of the 2011 champion, Wilmington University (601).
Sophomore Michael Coppa, who was among four players tied for ninth place after the first-round with a score of 78, improved by four strokes in round two and finished fifth overall with a score of 152. Coppa earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team by virtue of his top-five finish.
Just one stroke behind Coppa was sophomore Devon Ripley, who shot a 76 in round one and a 77 in round two for an overall score of 153 and a sixth-place finish.
Senior Wes Hood improved by four strokes in round two to shoot a 79 and finish tied for 18th place with an overall score of 162. Sophomore transfer from Wilmington Jeff Whiteside also improved by four strokes to shoot an 81 in round two as he tied for 27th place with a score of 166.
The Lightning's fifth finisher for the tournament was freshman Bryan Neuhaus, who finished 30th with an overall score of 168 (81, 87).
Goldey-Beacom, which entered day two 14 strokes behind Post and 18 back of the leader, Wilmington, improved as a team by seven strokes from round one to round two, but Post equaled its round one score of 304 and Wilmington shot just one over (300 to 301).
The Lightning will travel to Dracut, Mass. to compete in UMass Lowell's River Hawk Invitational where they will have one more opportunity to boost their NCAA East Regional resume.
