MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sophomore Devon Ripley shot two under par in the second round to finish with a 150 and earn the tournament individual championship as he led the Goldey-Beacom College golf team to a third place team finish at the Southern Swing Invitational, hosted by Dowling College from Mar. 4. through Mar. 6.
The two-round event was played on the par-72 Diamond Back Golf Course located on the grounds of the Woodland Valley Country Club. Post University, the defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champions, took first place with a team score of 634. Dowling followed with a 650, and nine strokes back of them was the Lightning, in third with a score of 659. Felician placed fourth at 693, and Dominican did not finish.
Ripley's second round score of 70 was the best round of any individual golfer on the day. This was his first career individual tournament championship, and the fourth top-10 tournament finish of the season. He became the third different GBC player to win a tournament this season, joining senior Wes Hood and sophomore Michael Coppa.
Freshman Justin Lesko was the next best finisher for GBC at ninth place with a score of 166, and Hood followed in 10th place at 168.
