PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College women's basketball team erased a 35-32 halftime deficit and outscored Felician, 35-19 in the second half to earn a 67-54 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at the Joseph West Jones Centrer on Sat. afternoon.
The Lightning improved to 14-10 (12-5 CACC) and won their fifth straight while Felician saw its four-game win-streak snapped and fell to 17-7 overall, 11-6 in league play.
GBC is now locked into the No. 3 seed in the CACC Tournament after USciences clinched the No. 2 spot with its 14th straight win, a 54-47 triumph over Bloomfield this afternoon at the Morgan Arena.
Sophomore Devonne Richardson led GBC with 16 points, 13 rebounds and two assists. She shot just 2-of-8 from the field but 12-of-15 from the foul line. Also, senior guard Janae Weldon and redshirt-junior guard Jacinda Jones scored 13 and 12, respectively.
The first half was about as even as one would expect from two teams coming in with four-game win-streaks and identical 11-5 conference records. Both teams shot 12-of-29 (41-percent) from the field as the first 20 minutes of action featured nine ties and 16 lead changes. The Lightning shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line and held a 21-6 rebounding edge, but Felician emerged with a 35-32 halftime lead as a result of 6-of-9 shooting from long-distance compared to GBC's 0-for-2.
For the first 10 minutes of the second half, it appeared this game was going down to the wire, but an 11-0 Lightning surge beginning with a Weldon jumper at 9:53 and ending with a Richardson free-throw at 5:17 gave GBC the game's largest lead, 57-44.

However, Felician would score the next 10 points, the last five by Tierra Cleaves, and make it a one-possession game with 2:45 left to play.
Following a careless GBC turnover, the Falcons had the ball with a chance to tie or make it a one-point game, but Jones came up with a huge steal and layup at the other end to push the lead back to five.
The play by Jones seemed to take the wind out of Felician's sail as the Falcons did not score the rest of the way and GBC secured the victory with 8-of-10 shooting at the foul line.
The Lightning defense held Felician to 24-percent shooting from the field, including just 1-of-6 from three-point range in the second half. They also dominated the rebounding battle in the second half, 27-17 (48-33 for the game).
Up next for GBC is a battle with CACC South Division foe Philadelphia University at the Jones Center Wed. night at 6 p.m. The Rams are locked into a No. 4 seed for the upcoming CACC Tournament. The Lightning won convincingly, 71-62 at the Gallagher Center the last time these two met in both teams' conference season opener on Dec. 1. GBC has won the last three meetings, all of which were at Phila U. The Lightning have yet to beat the Rams on their home floor though.
Head coach Jen Carleton and the Lightning will try to earn the school's first victory over Phila U. at the Jones Center as they celebrate Senior Night on Wed. The team will be honoring four seniors: Amber Gullickson, Arielle Alford, Janae Weldon and Megan Knowles.
