THIELLS, N.Y. - The Goldey-Beacom College golf team finished third of six teams at the St. Thomas Aquinas Fall Golf Classic at Phillip J. Rotella Golf Course.
The Lightning improved by 23 strokes from round one to round two to surpass Nyack College in the team standings and finish third with an overall score of 629. Post University was second with a 611, and the host Spartans were No. 1 with a 599. Nyack was fourth with a score of 637, and Concordia and Dominican were fifth and sixth, respectively.
Juniors
Devon Ripley and
Jeff Whiteside were the top finishers for Goldey-Beacom as they finished in a three-way tie for 7th place with a score of 156. Whiteside shot a 79 and 77 while Ripley improved six strokes in round two (81, 75) to force the tie with his teammate.
In a three-way tie for 10th place was junior
Michael Coppa, who improved by 14 strokes (86, 72) in round two to finish with a 158. Coppa's 72 in the second round was tied for the second-lowest round of the day.
Sophomore
Patrick McRae shot a steady 80 and 79 to finish in a three-way tie for 13th place with a score of 159, and sophomore Justin Lesko tied for 30th place with a 175 (88, 87).
Next up for the Lightning is the Charger Challenge hosted by Dominican College on Oct. 9 and 10.
