RISING SUN, Md. - The host Lightning golf team took second place out of eight teams at the annual Goldey-Beacom College Fall Classic held at the Chesapeake Bay Golf Club on Oct. 17-18. Adelphi University, which shot a team score of 596, was crowned the team champion.
The Lightning, ranked No. 4 in the region coming into the tournament, shot a 610 (304, 306) as a team to finish 11 strokes ahead of third-place West Chester. Millersville and Wesley College tied for fourth-place as both shot a 633. Nyack, Dominican and Felician rounded out the scoring.
Junior
Michael Coppa led three top-10 Lightning finishers as he carded a 150. His 73 in the first round was good for second at the end of day one, but he slipped to fifth place with a 77 in the second round on day two.
Junior
Jeff Whiteside and sophomore
Patrick McRae finished in a four-way tie for seventh place as both shot a two-round score of 152. Whiteside shot a steady 76 in both rounds while McRae improved two strokes (77, 75) from round one to two.
The next finisher for GBC was junior
Devon Ripley, who finished 16th overall with a 156 (78, 78). He was followed by sophomore
Bryan Neuhaus, who shot a 160 (79, 81) to tie for 21st with two other players.

Matthew Japchen (T-29th, 164),
Justin Lesko (T-32nd, 165) and freshman
Matthew Scheeper (48th, 182).
This tournament concludes the Fall season for Goldey-Beacom.
