PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team won its second straight game on a rainy Mon. afternoon in non-conference action against Washington Adventist University on the strength of sophomore goalkeeper Ignacio Farias' career-high 14 saves and sophomore forward Ricky Jackson's two goals.

The Lightning improved to 2-7 overall with the win while Washington Adventist fell to 6-6.

Jackson, the hero in the Lightning's 2-1 victory over Caldwell on Saturday, scored two goals in the first two-and-a-half minutes of play to put GBC up 2-0 early. That was all the scoring the Lightning would need, but junior sweeper Dave Krawczyk added a third goal, his first of the season, in the 83rd minute.

Farias was outstanding in the GBC goal, stopping 14 shots, including three that were drilled right at him from inside the box to earn a shared shutout victory with freshman Carlos Meinhard. Farias was relieved for the final 3:37 as Meinhard came on and made one tough save on the slick Churchman-Sawin Field grass to preserve the shutout.

The Shock took an astounding 34 shots to the Lightning's 13, including 23 in the second half. They also had 11 corner kicks to GBC's three. Abanda Nkwanyou led WAU with nine shots, putting six on net.

GBC shot the ball with much more efficiency, putting 10 of its 13 shots on goal and converting three goals while WAU scored none. Junior Rob Cann took a team-high three shots and put all three on goal. Jackson put both of his two shots on goal, as did Krawczyk, and sophomore Matt Bik took one shot and put that on net as well.

The first Lightning strike came when Jackson shot in a rebound off of Cann's deflected shot at the 1:40 mark. This marked the second straight time those two combined on a goal as it was Cann who found Jackson for the game-winner on Saturday.

Jackson struck again 41 seconds later when he turned with the ball and the Shock defender slipped, leaving him open for a shot from about the 18-yard line which past WAU goalkeeper Efren Gutierrez for his third goal in the last two games.

Neither team would score for the nearly the next 80 minutes before Krawczyk came up on the attack from his sweeper position and scored off an assist from freshman Alex Gonzalez.

Notes: The Lightning were without freshman midfielder Andre Jank, who suffered a broken collar bone in the final minutes of Saturday's game against Caldwell. His return this season is questionable.

Also, sophomore forward Kwame Appiah has been out for the last two games nursing an ankle injury. Appiah is the second-leading scorer on the team with three points (1 g, 1 a).
