PIKE CREEK, Del. – The Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team held a 1-0 advantage through 70 minutes of play, but a relentless Ram attack in the second half resulted in three unanswered Philadelphia University goals to send the Lightning to a 3-1 loss at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field Tues. afternoon.

The Lightning fell to 0-7 on the season and 0-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play while Philadelphia improved to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Freshman Thatcher Howell scored his first career goal at the 18:24 mark off an assist from senior Erlin Rodezno (three shots, two shots on goal), and the Lightning had an early 1-0 lead.

GBC clung to that 1-0 lead for the entire first half despite getting out-shot 14-3 and the Rams earning four corner kicks to the Lightning's two. Sophomore goalkeeper Ignacio Farias made an incredible save on a penalty kick by Philadelphia's Milos Racic to preserve the first-half shutout and keep his team ahead by a goal.

The Rams, who were coming off a 1-0 loss to Caldwell this past Saturday during which they outshot the Cougars 17-9, came out firing in the second half. Having outshot GBC 7-2 in the first 20 minutes of the second stanza, they finally broke through for a goal on a direct kick by Sean Crossland from just outside the box to even the score at one apiece.

A little over three minutes later, the Rams struck again when Crossland sent a corner kick into the box and Muzalier Gaussaint headed home the go-ahead goal.

Gaussaint added an insurance goal for Philadelphia in the 90th minute when he struck home a cross from Mark Holman and sent it past GBC goalkeeper Ignacio Farias for his second goal of the day and the Rams' third.

Philadelphia outshot GBC 28-7 for the game and took seven corner kicks to the Lightning's five. Farias (0-7) made six saves and allowed three goals in 90 minutes of work. Philadelphia's Alex Heston made three stops and allowed one goal for a complete game victory.

The Lightning will host CACC foe Caldwell next on Sat., Sept. 25 at 3 p.m.
