ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Goldey-Beacom College men's soccer team visited the No. 10 ranked team in the East Region, Dominican College on Sat. afternoon in search of its first victory, but came out on the losing end of a lopsided 6-1 verdict.
The Lightning fell to 0-4 on the season overall and 0-1 to start Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play as Dominican improved to 3-1 (1-0 CACC).
Junior Kwame Appiah scored the lone Lightning goal early in the second half. The goal was Appiah's first of the season, and eighth for his career as he moved into sole possession of eighth place on the school's career goals scored list.
Dominican took an astounding 31 shots, putting 14 on goal while GBC took 15 and targeted six on net. The Chargers also took eight corner kicks to the Lightning's five.
A very physical game, the two teams were whistled for a combined 30 fouls for the afternoon – GBC had 17 and Dominican had 13. There were four yellow cards handed out and one red card.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ignacio Farias (0-4) played for 67:15 and made six saves while allowing four goals. Freshman Carlos Meinhard relieved him in the second half and stopped two shots and allowed two goals.
Jorge Zubillaga opened the scoring for the Chargers just 1:08 into the action when he finished a cross from Sony Narro. 
Zubillaga and Artan Balaj assisted on a goal by Pedro DeAraujo in the 32nd minute, and John Langdon tallied in the 35th minute off an assist from 2009 First-Team All-CACC defender, Clifton Huxtable. 
Appiah's goal at the 46:06 mark would bring GBC within two goals at 3-1, but the Chargers pushed ahead with three more goals by John Dumbuya (55:11), Morgan Rodriguez (67:40) and Narro (69:18). 
The Lightning are back in action on Thurs., Sept. 16 when they visit CACC foe Chestnut Hill College under the lights at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School Victory Field. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.
