Lightning Swept at Post

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Goldey-Beacom College softball team suffered its fifth and sixth straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference losses in a doubleheader Sat. afternoon against Post University by scores of 7-3 and 2-1.
The Lightning fell to 14-14 overall and 6-11 in league play while Post improved to 11-19 overall and 9-5 in the conference.
Game 1: Post 7, GBC 3
In the first game, two homeruns sealed the win for the Eagles. The first was in the opening inning when Emily Archer hit a grand slam scoring Amy Mantha, Sam Canning, and Tierney Marceau. Prior to the home run Cassidie Ern scored on a single from Marceau, making it 5-0 Eagles. 
The second homerun was hit by Mantha in the second scoring Samantha Pagano who hit a double giving Post a 7-0 lead. Goldey Beacom scored once in the 4th and two runs in the 6th for a 7-3 final score.
Sophomores Danielle Rice, Shannon Graves and Cailin Cavanaugh (the 4-5-6 batters in the lineup) each tallied an RBI, and Cavanaugh had a team-high two hits.
Freshman Ashley Antosh (1-2) took the loss as she tossed four innings and gave up seven earned runs on eight hits and four walks. Sophomore Sadie Jones and freshman Tori Anne Davies each pitched an inning of relief and shut down the Eagles the rest of the game.
Game 2: Post 2, GBC 1
The second half of the twin bill was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Post's Christina Marino came into the game to pinch hit for Canning. Marino walked, and would eventually come around to score on a Marceau single.
GBC tied the game in the fifth inning when senior Lauren Witzke scored on an error. But the gamewinner was scored in the seventh inning by Ern who came around to score after hitting a double. After Pagano reached with a bunt, Mantha walked and Canning was hit by a pitch to send home Ern for the winning run.
Junior Heather Draper (5-3) took the loss as she went six innings and allowed just two earned runs on four hits and six walks while striking out four. She was unable to get an out in the seventh inning before the winning run came to the plate for Post.
GBC is back in action on Mon. evening as they make-up what was supposed to be the second game of a doubleheader against CACC foe Holy Family. The Lightning will look to avenge a heartbreaking 7-6 loss in Bristol, Pa.
