LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – The Goldey-Beacom College men's golf team, led by three top-10 individual finishes, took second in the 1st annual Philadelphia University Golf Classic at The ACE Club on Tues. afternoon.
The Lightning shot a 320 as a team on the one-round, par-72, 6,800-yard course, finishing just four strokes behind Division I Drexel University and three strokes ahead of another D-I school, LaSalle.
Senior Wes Hood, coming off an individual championship at the Charger Challenge this past weekend, continues to impress, leading GBC with a 79, good for 7th place overall. Freshman Pat McRae had a great performance in his collegiate debut, taking 9th place with a score of 80. Sophomore Devon Ripley tied for 9th with an 80 as well.
Sophomore Michael Coppa shot an 81 to take 13th, and freshman Justin Lesko was 29th with an 86.
GBC will next compete in the Wilmington University Fall Golf Classic on Sat., Oct. 16. Last year, the Lightning took 4th of eight teams at this tournament.
