Hood Leads Lightning to 2nd Place Finish at “Charger Challenge”

Senior Wes Hood (above) was the individual champion at the "Charger Challenge" shooting a 146 (74, 72) on the par-72 course.

Results

SUFFERN, N.Y. – Senior Wes Hood shot a 146 (74, 72) in the two-round, par-72 “Charger Challenge” at Spook Rock Golf Course to earn the top score in a field of 51 golfers and led the Goldey-Beacom College golf team to a second-place team finish in the 10-team event.

The Lightning shot a 618 (315, 303) and finished just five points behind first-place Adelphi (613) and nine points ahead of third-place College of Saint Rose (627). Concordia (640) and Pace (643) rounded out the top-five, followed by Nyack (644), Holy Family (654), Dominican (659), Felician (659) and Nassau Community College (667).

Sophomore Michael Coppa, Jr. tied for fourth place overall with a 152 (76, 76) and sophomore Devon Ripley tied for 10th with a 157 (83, 74).

Rounding out the Lightning scorers were freshmen Matthew Japchen (36th, 167) and Justin Lesko (T-37th, 168).

GBC finished strong to beat out Saint Rose, tying Adelphi for the lowest team score in round two (303).
